ISHRAE started at Delhi in 1981 and a Chapter was started in Bangalore during 1989. Between 1989 & 1993, ISHRAE Chapters were formed in all major cities in India and also in the Middle East.

ISHRAE is an International
Associate of ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating
and Air Conditioning Engineers. ASHRAE President for 1999-2000 Mr. Jarley W Goodman Jr. P E along with ASHRAE Fellow from USA, Mr. Sukhdev Mathaudhu were on a visit to India during Nov. 22-29, 1999. Though the main purpose of the visit was to charter the newly formed ASHRAE South India Chapter at Bangalore, they visited Ahmedabad and Delhi as well where they had a hectic schedule organised by ASHRAE Western India Chapter and ASHRAE India Chapter and ASHRAE India Chapter respectively. At Delhi, Mr. Goodman "kicked off" the inaugural meeting of the Technical Committee 4.3 on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) on 27th Nov. 1999 forenoon in which a select gathering of more than 50 industry professionals were present. In the afternoon, Mr. Mathaudhu conducted a workshop on chapter operation which was highly appreciated by the ASHRAE India Chapter BOG members. In the same evening, Delhi Chapter of ISHRAE organised a Chapter Night in which the two dignitaries from ASHRAE were facilitated. Mr. Goodman spoke about his vision of ASHRAE Europe, ASHRAE South-East Asia, ASHRAE Indian Subcontinent, ASHRAE Middle East etc. wherefrom ASHRAE would operate and service local chapters. At present ASHRAE publications are available only in English. He looked forward to having regional language editions of these publications in the future. Mr. Mathaudhu who is intimately connected with the development and growth of three chapters of ASHRAE in India, informed the gathereing that the growth of ASHRAE membership in India is second only to the United States. While in Delhi, Mr. Goodman released the 2nd issue of the ASHRAE India Chapter Newsletter as well a report on Weather Data and Design Conditions for INDIA. Both Mr. Goodman as well as Mr. Mathudhu mentioned that their visit was very successful and they would relish the memories of it. |
